Societies Tackling AIDS Through Rights - STAR PROJECT

Through partnership with Action aid International Kenya, we implemented a project known as STAR- Society Tackling Aids through Rights. STAR was a project funded by global fund through care Kenya and Action aid in June 2011 to June 2014.

The project targeted the youth, women and entire community especially the poor on their perception on HIV/AIDS and behavior change communication. This project has seen at least more than 300 youth reached and changed with a positive attitude towards life. We conducted sports activities where we had VCT counseling and testing. The project has also seen some of our members being trained on HIV/AIDS and peer education. We have seen over 400 youths in the community turning up for either counseling or testing. Many youth have also gained knowledge on BCC and we have noted a positive change in them.

Jukwaa la Vijana Pwani

Jukwaa la vijana pwani also refered to as The coast youth platform is a program that focuses on countering youth involvement in violent extremism.

Peace Campaign Project- Majirani Tulindane, Sisi Sote Tusiasi

With a vision of having a peaceful society we successfully implementing our own volunteering peace project with a theme- β€˜Majirani Tulindane, Sisi sote Tusiasi’ a Swahili version meaning Neighbors protect each other so that we prevent going against God’s will. This project mainly targeted young generation and the entire community. The project mainly advocated on peace and patriotism mainly as we were within elections period in Kenya and also surrounded by issues such as MRC and ALSHAABAB. We also targeted youths in schools especially those in Class eight and form four for they were at a high risk of engaging into political forums and meetings in 2012- 2013.

✨ About the Project

The CARE Project (Community Artivism in Resisting Extremist Ideologies) was a youth-led initiative implemented by Manyatta Youth Entertainment (MAYE) CBO, supported by ForumCiv under the Wajibu Wetu Programme.

Over two years, the project used creative arts β€” theatre, graffiti, music, and dialogue β€” to empower young women and men in Kwale County to resist violent extremism, build peace, and engage with community leaders and security agencies.

  • πŸ‘₯ Beneficiaries: 600+ youth directly engaged; 144 PCVE champions trained (72 female, 72 male)
  • 🎨 Activities: 2 Anika Amani Festivals, 6 theatre dialogues, 4 multi-stakeholder barazas, graffiti installations, radio talk shows
  • 🏒 Structures Built: 12 youth-friendly PCVE information booths + the ANIKA Community Hub
  • 🀝 Partnerships: County Government, police, village elders, NACADA, ICPC, USIP, media houses
  • πŸ’° Investment: Kshs. 5.8 million (including musical equipment for sustainable livelihoods)

Institution Capacity Strengthening Project

MAYE now has clear and operational policy manuals after benefiting on a USAID 3 years funded project β€˜ICS; Institution capacity strengthening through WOFAK; Women fighting AIDS in Kenya. The project ran from May 2012 to May 2014. We were undertaken through Trainings that involved Leadership and Management, Resource Mobilization, Financial Management,Monitoring and Evaluation.

Jukwaa la Vijana Pwani Forums

MAYE has successfully implemented the first Jukwaa la vijana movie screening forum on 4th April, 2015 at ACK Guest house hal- Likoni sub county, Mombasa County in Kenya. The event that was graced by the Likoni deputy ocs as one of the Guest speakers together with other charismatic leaders saw over 1oo youths participating. There was great theatre arts performances full of edutainment education that moved the participants that mainly consisted of youths from Likoni Sub county. Great dances, songs and shot plays were performed by MAYE thespians among other invited dance crews that acted as curtain raisers before the actual screening of the movie.

Green Village Project - Kenya

MAYE has demonstrated its capacity by successfully participating in a three years European union funded project β€˜Green village’ as a third world organization partnering with 9 other European organizations from different states. In collaboration with Grampus Heritage, an international organization registered in UK, MAYE initiated a project – GREEN VILLAGE that lasted for three years from 2011 to 2013.

Light up Kenya

We are encouraging use of solar energy as an option for lighting in partnership with Gansfort Foundation. We avail solar lamps to the community members and families. Lamps that also offer phone charging services making it easy for families that live without electricity and also offer employment and economic empowerment for youths.

Under the same project we have gone an extra mile in conserving the environment by doing waste management. Using of waste bottles to generate light on dark rooms during the day. This skill is offering economic empowerment to our volunteers who do marketing and installation to local houses at a fair fee. We are doing resource mobilization to empower more youths and visit villages around Mombasa.

CARE PROJECT under WAJIBU WETU PROGRAM Supported by Frum Syd

Project Title: Community Artivism in Resisting Extremist Ideologies

MAYE came with Community Artivism (Art and Activism) in Resisting Extremist Ideologies- CARE Project whose goal is to see young women, men, and communities resist extremist ideologies. At the same time, this project looks at using arts as a tool for social and economic change, answers the question of how can one transform arts into wealth while impacting lives. Care is a two years’ project to be implemented from June 2019 to May 2021.

Yes To Basic Rights for Kids- Y2 BARIKI Project

This is our owned designed project that focuses mainly on Children rights protection targeting children from age of 8 to 16 years old. We train children on rights, life skills, Gender based violence. Our program targets both children in and out of school. We champion and advocate for the basic rights such as Food, Shelter, Education, Health and etc. We have so far Trained 30 children as Trainers of trainers on Children rights protection. We are focusing on mobilizing resources to starts Y2 BARIKI Clubs in schools where the TOT’s shall serve as team leaders. The overall goal for the project is to encourage school enrolment and enforcement.
